Overview
Drama is a vital subject for young people. It requires participants to put their opinion forward, to work with others and make decisions together. The transferable skills developed within Drama are of benefit to all who will go on to work with other people in any way.
We are not preparing our pupils to become actors, although we support and value keen performers and provide them with the guidance they may require to continue to study Drama after GCSE level. Crucially, we ARE preparing our pupils for life and continuously challenging them to consider things in different ways, explore and respect the value of others and build effective working relationships.
Homework
It is hard to set meaningful homework at Key Stage 3 as all classwork is in groups. We have now decided to focus on literacy in Year 7 and 8 with spellings related to the Schemes of work studied. At Key Stage 4, writing tasks will be set to prepare for the written elements of the GSCE specification.
How to help your child
Support Year 7 and 8 spelling tasks
Ask your child to explain written homework in years 9, 10 and 11 and discuss the work if possible
Take your child to the theatre if at all possible
Ask about current work in Drama and the role they are playing
Assist with line learning, especially at KS4
