Volume 36 – Friday 17th July 2026

Dear Parents/Carers

As we draw ever closer to the end of another successful academic year, I wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on what has been an incredibly busy and rewarding week at Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School, especially as this is our last Head’s Herald before we break.

One of the highlights of my week was having the privilege of interviewing our Year 10 students for a range of Student Leadership positions. I was genuinely inspired by every student who applied. They spoke with confidence, maturity and passion about our school, demonstrating a deep understanding of our values and our commitment to High Expectations, High Aspirations and High Standards.

Choosing our new Student Leadership Team was no easy task, as the standard was exceptionally high. I would like to congratulate every student who put themselves forward. Regardless of the outcome, they should all be immensely proud of the courage, commitment and leadership qualities they displayed throughout the process.

I am delighted to announce our Student Leadership Team for 2026–2027.

We know these students will be exceptional ambassadors for our school, and I look forward to working alongside them as they help shape the future of our Boteler family.

This week also saw us celebrate the achievements of so many of our students at our annual Awards Evening. It was a truly special occasion that recognised academic excellence, commitment, resilience, leadership and the many talents that make our students so remarkable.

I would like to thank all of the staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the evening such a success and to all the parents and carers for all their support too. We were also incredibly fortunate to welcome Jamie Jones-Buchanan as our guest speaker. His inspiring interview with Mike Wildsmith left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance. Despite England playing that evening, the hall was full – a wonderful reflection of the importance our community places on celebrating the achievements of our young people.

As I write this we are enjoying another of the highlights of the school calendar: Sports Day. These events are always a fantastic opportunity for students to demonstrate teamwork, determination and resilience while enjoying healthy competition. My sincere thanks go to the PE Team and who have worked so hard to organise the  event. What makes Sports Day so special is its inclusive nature. Every student has the opportunity to take part, contribute and experience success, ensuring that everyone feels valued and included.

As we approach the end of the academic year, I would like to thank you, our parents and carers, for your continued support. The partnership between home and school plays such an important role in helping our young people flourish, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.

I would also like to recognise our exceptional staff, whose dedication, care and unwavering commitment provide our students with the very best opportunities every single day. The positive difference they make to the lives of our young people extends far beyond the classroom and is something of which we can all be immensely proud.

It is a privilege to lead such an extraordinary school community. Together, we continue to ensure that every student is known, valued and supported to achieve their very best.

Just a few updates for next week:

Monday

Students to come in PE kit and the day runs as normal. There is a special event P5 to raise money for St. Rocco’s and my ‘Strictly’ campaign.  This has been organised by the student charity team, and I am incredibly grateful for their support. If you would like to donate, please follow the link St Rocco’s Hospice: Strictly Dancers 2026

Tuesday

Rewards Trip Day. All students whether they are in  school or a trip can wear non school uniform. However, students are not allowed to wear cycling shorts, very short shorts or cropped tops. This is not negotiable and also may result in them not being able to attend. We want them to feel comfortable however they are representing their school.

Wednesday

Students can come in to school in non-uniform and the same rules apply as for Trip day. School will finish at 12.30. Food will be available at break. If any Free School Meals student requires a packed lunch in addition to the food at break, please do let us know asap.

Thank you for your continued support. I could not do this without you. Please have a wonderful summer break and please ensure you stay safe.

I look forward to our next chapter together and I will you all the very best.

Year 11 GCSE Results Day

GCSE Results Day will take place on Thursday 20th August 2026. Students will be able to collect their results from the Main School Hall between 9:30am and 11:30am. If a student is unable to collect their results in person and would like someone else to collect them on their behalf, they must provide written permission in advance. This can be sent by email to Miss Morris at jmorris@boteler.org.uk or by submitting a signed letter clearly stating the name of the person authorised to collect the results. Any results that remain uncollected will be posted to students’ home addresses on Friday 21st August 2026.

Students should check their personal email accounts regularly, as the college or sixth form they have applied to will contact them directly regarding the next steps following the publication of their results. To support students on the day, our independent Careers Adviser from Careers Connect will be available to offer guidance and advice, particularly for anyone who wishes to discuss their next steps or explore alternative options following the release of their results.

We recognise that Results Day can bring a mixture of excitement and nerves, and we look forward to welcoming our Year 11 students back into school to celebrate their achievements and support them as they move on to the next stage of their education. Thank you for your continued support throughout your child’s time at Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School. We wish all our Year 11 students every success and look forward to seeing them on Results Day.

On Monday we welcome the Rock band Runway Club, who will be performing to all year groups during the morning. They will be discussing mental health, discrimination and bullying.

Runaway Club are a diverse powerhouse rock band based in Glastonbury, UK, made up of Angel, Reece, Sammy, and Charlie. Living and creating together in their band house, they’ve spent the last six months crafting their debut EP. The result? Genre-bending rock anthems that blend Angel’s fierce vocals and electrifying stage presence with Reece’s introspective rap, creating a sound reminiscent of Yungblud and Paramore. The band are managed by the same team that managed “The Wanted” and “The Saturdays” so are ones to watch out for in 2026.They have been hitting the road and bringing their high-energy live show to schools and festivals across the UK. With their boundary-pushing sound and unstoppable drive, Runaway Club are poised to become the next big UK rock band. The band have all had their own issues with mental health & discrimination so are looking forward to sharing their relatable stories with pupils. Runaway Club – Intro to the band

Congratulations!

Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School has successfully achieved the Skills Builder Gold Award!

This is a fantastic accomplishment and a testament to the dedication, passion and commitment of all our students in developing their essential skills in preparation for a successful future.

By delivering the Skills Builder Programme our students are given the opportunity to develop 8 essential skills: Listening and Speaking, Problem Solving and Creativity, Adapting and Planning, Leadership and Teamwork.

These skills are associated with positive life outcomes, as well as higher levels of literacy, numeracy and academic attainment.

Through subject lessons and the BWC programme students have developed these skills, reflected on their progress and had the opportunity to use them when meeting employers, businesses, taken part in work experience, trips, mock interviews, careers meetings as well as using them during social time at school and in the community.

We will continue to build on this success next year working closely with Skills Builder to ensure that our students use their essential skills alongside their academic learning to be an active and successful citizen.

This week, we were delighted to celebrate the achievements of so many of our students at our Annual Awards Evening. The event was a great success and recognised students for their hard work, commitment, resilience, and outstanding contributions to school life. It was a pleasure to welcome families into school to celebrate these achievements, and we are incredibly proud of every student who received an award.

Our celebrations continue as we look forward to our End of Year Rewards Day on Tuesday 21st July. This is another fantastic opportunity to recognise the many students who have consistently demonstrated excellent attendance, positive behaviour, and commitment to their learning throughout the year. We hope all students attending enjoy a well-deserved day of celebration.

Supporting Your Child Over the Summer

The summer holidays provide a wonderful opportunity for students to rest and recharge, but they are also an important time to continue developing confidence, independence, and a love of learning. Research from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) highlights that small, consistent interactions at home can make a significant difference to a child’s development.

Here are a few simple ways you can support your child over the summer:

Encourage your child to read regularly, whether it’s a novel, magazine, newspaper, or online article. Reading for just 20 minutes a day helps maintain literacy skills and broadens vocabulary.

💬 Talk About the Day

Take time to have regular conversations about experiences, interests, and future aspirations. Open discussions help develop communication skills, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.

🎯 Encourage Independence

Give your child opportunities to take responsibility, whether it’s planning a family day out, helping with household tasks, managing a budget, or organising their own time.

🌳 Stay Active and Connected

Encourage plenty of physical activity, time outdoors, and opportunities to spend time with family and friends. These experiences support both physical and mental wellbeing.

📱 Promote Healthy Digital Habits

Help your child achieve a healthy balance between screen time and other activities by encouraging regular breaks, time away from devices, and positive online behaviour.

Gulliver’s World Visit

As a reward for their outstanding dedication and hard work this year, our Wellbeing Council enjoyed a well-deserved trip to Gulliver’s World. Throughout the year, our Wellbeing Council members have shown incredible commitment to supporting their peers, promoting positive mental health, and helping to create a kinder, more inclusive school community. From leading assemblies and awareness campaigns to offering peer support and championing wellbeing initiatives, they have made a genuine difference to the lives of others. We are extremely proud of everything they have achieved and hope they enjoyed celebrating their success together. Thank you to each and every member for the positive impact you have made on our school community.

Free Breakfasts at Morrisons Cafés

Families can get free breakfasts at Morrisons cafés throughout the summer holidays:

Families can get free breakfasts at Morrisons cafés throughout the summer holidays under a new nationwide scheme – and unlike most supermarket food offers, adults can claim too. The supermarket has teamed up with Kellogg’s to bring back its popular Breakfast Clubs, giving both children and grown-ups a free breakfast with no purchase required.

Anyone visiting a participating Morrisons Café can claim a free bowl of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes or Rice Krispies, served with milk or a dairy alternative, plus a piece of fruit.
The offer runs from today until September 6 across Morrisons cafés nationwide.

It comes as new research commissioned by Morrisons found 54% of parents feel financial pressure during the summer holidays, with many saying the strain becomes most noticeable by week three.

Free Family Fun with the Victoria Park Experience (VPX)

The Victoria Park Experience (VPX) returns this August with four days of free family fun across Warrington.

Each event runs from 11am to 4pm and offers a variety of activities including sports, creative workshops, live music, and games for all ages.

Organised by Warrington Youth Zone and Cheshire Police with support from local partners, VPX provides a fantastic opportunity for families to enjoy the summer holidays together at no cost.

Summer Safety

The Young People’s Public Health Team has released a new Summer Safety video, providing important guidance for young people on how to stay safe during the holidays. The video covers key safety concerns including:

  • Abandoned buildings
  • Alcohol and substance use
  • Water safety

These issues are becoming an increasingly worrying concern within our community, and we are committed to ensuring that both parent carers and young people have access to the information and support they need to stay safe.

We encourage all families to take a few minutes to watch the video together and discuss the important messages it contains. By increasing awareness and understanding of these risks, we can work together to help keep our young people safe throughout the summer.

Science Department

Year 7 and 8 Science Reward Trip

Last Thursday, 30 of Boteler’s Year 7 and 8 scientists were invited to visit the Eureka Science + Discovery centre in Wallasey. The trip was organised by the science department as a reward for students who have shown excellent attitude to learning in their science lessons, and an enthusiasm for the subject overall.

Students explored exhibits based on a range of different themes – including nature, homes, and bodies. Each room featured interactive displays, games, and even a giant model of a cat for us to climb inside! Some of our favourites included the wind turbines, the chill zone, and the climbing tree.

After lunch, our group were treated to an interactive theatre show all about robotics. The staff at Eureka were very knowledgeable, and showed us a variety of robots and machines, explaining the principles behind each one. Students confidently shared answers to questions from the Eureka staff, and Finnley in Year 7 even volunteered to have a go using the robotic hand! However, our favourite robot was, of course, ‘Barkimedes’ – the robotic dog!

The science department is immensely proud of all students who attended, and would like to congratulate them once more for their hard work and dedication.

Designated Provision

On Friday 10th July the students from the Designated Provision took part in a specially organised DP Sports Day event hosted by Bridgewater High School. There were other DP students from Penketh High school and Bridgewater High School as well as us.

The students took part in the following events: –

  • Javelin
  • Standing long jump
  • Relay
  • Hurdles
  • 200m Sprint

We worked with the other schools in teams and competed against each other. It was a really fun and engaging afternoon, and some students were able to try events they had never done before. Everyone showed excellent determination, resilience and teamwork.
