Dear Parents/Carers

As we move ever closer towards the end of another busy and successful academic year, there is much to celebrate across our Boteler Family.

This week, we said goodbye to our wonderful Year 11 students as they completed their GCSE examinations. Our Leavers’ Service was a particularly special occasion and, as always, the students were absolutely amazing. Whilst this marks the end of their time with us as Boteler students, it is certainly not the end of their story. Rather, it is simply the closing of one chapter in what I know will be an amazing book that is their lives.

The relationships we build with our young people are incredibly special. One of the things that makes our Boteler Family unique is that those relationships do not simply end when students leave our school gates. Our Year 11 students know that we will always be here for them, celebrating their successes and supporting them whenever they need us. That will never change. We are immensely proud of the young people they have become and look forward to seeing what they achieve next.

As Year 11 complete their examinations, our Year 10 students continue their own examination journey. I have been incredibly impressed with their attitude towards both revision and the examinations themselves. I know how hard they have been working, and that dedication is evident in the mature and positive approach they have shown throughout. They should be very proud of themselves and just need to continue to focus next week.

Despite the fact that we are moving towards the end of term, school life continues at a tremendous pace. We never stand still at Boteler; we continually strive to improve and be even better than we were yesterday. Our Transition Programme is now in full swing, and the subject taster sessions have been a huge success. It has been wonderful to see our future Year 7 students already beginning to feel part of the Boteler Family. We are very excited about welcoming them officially in September.

Of course, our work starts even earlier than Year 6. Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting prospective Year 5 families during my “Audience with the Head” evening. It was a fantastic opportunity to share what makes the Boteler Family so unique and special, whilst giving parents an insight into our vision, values and ambitions for every child.

I was particularly proud to highlight the breadth of success we achieve at Boteler. Whilst we are rightly recognised for the exceptional support we provide for students with SEND, we are equally proud of our strong academic outcomes and our ability to help young people of all abilities thrive, succeed, and achieve their potential. Our commitment is simple: every child matters, every child belongs and every child deserves the opportunity to flourish.

Looking ahead, we have Sports Day, our Reward Trips and the appointment of our new Student Leadership Team on the horizon. There is still much to look forward to before we break for the summer.

Whilst it is a busy time of year, we never lose sight of our core purpose. Every day matters. Every lesson matters. Every interaction matters. We remain committed to ensuring that we make the very most of every opportunity and continue to provide the very best education and experiences for our young people.

Finally, with warmer weather forecast over the coming weeks, please keep an eye out for communications regarding any temporary uniform adaptations that may be required. As always, I will take a sensible and pragmatic approach. Unless any changes are communicated directly by me, please do not make assumptions based on rumours. My wonderful young people are often exceptionally talented storytellers when it comes to what I may or may not have said!

Year 10 Mock Exam Timetable

Your child’s mock examinations start on Thursday 11^th June and end on Wednesday 1^st July 2026.  Click here for exam timetable. A personalised timetable showing the room and seat number will be sent out nearer the time.

The JCQ Information for Candidates Written Exams outline the rules for students taking exams and these are very important.  To access these please click on this link https://www.boteler.org.uk/exam-policies/

Morning Exams: start at 9am.  Students must arrive at school at 8.30am and go to form as usual.  They will then be sent to the canteen at 8.40am for a briefing before being escorted to their exam venue.

Afternoon Exams: start at 1pm. Students must wait in the canteen at the end of lunch, where they will be briefed before being escorted to the exam venue.

Please note it will be an early lunch for the mock exams (12.15pm – 13.00pm).

All exams will be conducted under national exam style conditions and will be supervised by external invigilators.  This is to give them the best preparation in readiness for the actual exams in summer 2027.

We must remind you how important these mock exams are and they should complete as much revision as possible. The purpose of these mocks is to enable the school to have a set of data showing their current ‘working at’ grade as they finish in Year 10.  This grade in each subject will then enable us to make any adjustments to class sets and/ or provide any suitable interventions to improve attainment and progress as soon as they start in Year 11 in September.

They MUST bring all the necessary equipment required (including a scientific calculator) for each subject. Full uniform must be worn for the exams.

Attendance Matters

As we move towards the end of the academic year, attendance remains a key priority. Every lesson counts, and strong attendance helps students maximise their learning, maintain positive relationships with staff and peers, and achieve their full potential.

A student with 95% attendance misses approximately 10 days of learning across the school year. Small improvements in attendance can have a significant impact on academic progress and wellbeing.

We ask parents and carers to continue supporting us by:

• Ensuring students attend school every day unless they are genuinely unwell.
• Encouraging punctuality and positive morning routines.
• Contacting school promptly if there are any barriers affecting attendance.

Together, we can ensure every student has the best possible opportunity to succeed.

• Students can only wear a Boteler branded/logo PE top or t shirt (blue PE t-shirt and/or the quarter zip training top)
• Students can choose to wear either shorts, skort, leggings or school branded jogging bottoms. If students choose to wear shorts or a skort, please ensure they have navy sports socks.

Boteler Rewards Programme – Star of the Lesson

This fortnight, our Boteler Rewards Programme is focusing on Star of the Lesson.

Staff will be recognising students who demonstrate exceptional effort, engagement, resilience and contribution during lessons. Whether it is answering challenging questions, supporting others, showing determination when learning becomes difficult, or producing outstanding work, students have the opportunity to be recognised as the Star of the Lesson.

We encourage parents and carers to talk to their child about how they can demonstrate these positive learning behaviours and earn recognition over the coming weeks.

Important Information from the School’s Immunisation Team

The School’s Immunisations Team are changing the consent process for school vaccinations.

From July 2026, our local NHS school age immunisation service will contact parents and guardians directly to ask for consent.

You’ll receive an email or text message from the NHS with a link to an online consent form.

You can use the online form to:

• give consent for your child to be vaccinated
• say you do not want your child to be vaccinated
• update your contact details if needed

Filling in the form will be quick and easy. It’s important to respond, even if you do not want your child to be vaccinated.

What information will we share

To allow the NHS immunisation team to contact you, we will give them:

• your child’s name, date of birth, postcode and school class
• your email address and mobile phone number

These details will only be used to send messages about your child’s vaccinations.

Keeping your information safe

Your personal data will be stored securely in line with NHS data security standards. Only authorised members of the immunisation team and the digital service team can access your contact details.

Young Carers

Warrington Carers Hub, in collaboration with Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service, will be delivering Water Safety training for young carers of all ages on Thursday 30 July.  Please see the poster below for further details.

Year 10

Students in Year 10 will be able to apply to be part of our Student Leadership Body (SLB) over the next few weeks and Interviews will take place on Tuesday 14^th July with Mrs Scott-Herron and Mrs A Mawby. Written applications need to be sent to Miss J Muckley (jmuckley@boteler.org.uk)  by Wednesday 8^th July.

Please apply in writing to Mrs Scott-Herron, stating why you would like to be member of the SLB, the role you would like and why you feel you would be an asset to the team.

Think about the experience you have and the activities you have been involved in and outside of school. If you have been involved with the school council, sports teams, the ambassador programme etc, please refer to that. 

You have many skills and strengths how would these contribute to the leadership of others? What essential skills and qualities do you have that make you a good leader and how do you demonstrate them?

Ambassadors

Our Ambassadors have been busy this week supporting with Year 6 taster sessions, staff interviews, tours and performing at the Year 5 ‘An Audience with the Headteacher event’. They have shown excellent use of their essential skills, from speaking to problem solving.

Youth Parliament

As Warrington South Member of Youth Parliament, Morgan attends formal events throughout Warrington. Last weekend Morgan attended the Mayor’s Civic event. 

Strictly Come Dancing – Fundraiser Hampers

Raffle tickets for hampers are being sold in school to raise funds for Mrs Scott-Herron’s Strictly St. Rocco’s fundraiser. The fundraising committee will be selling tickets at break and lunchtimes in the canteen. Tickets are 20p each (£1 for a strip). Year 10 Parent Forum – Exploring Post-16 Options

A reminder that our final Parent Forum of the year will take place on Tuesday 30th June from 18:00–19:30 in the Main Hall.

This event is specifically for Year 10 students and their parents/carers and will focus on post-16 pathways, including college courses, sixth form options and apprenticeships. Representatives from local colleges will be joining us to provide information and answer questions, helping families make informed decisions about future education and training opportunities.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided, and students are encouraged to attend alongside their parents/carers.

End of Year Rewards Trips

We are also looking forward to our End of Year Rewards Trips on Tuesday 21st July 2026. These trips are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate students who have consistently demonstrated positive conduct and good attendance throughout the year.

Please remember that places are subject to meeting the school’s behaviour and attendance expectations. Students with significant attendance concerns, behavioural concerns or outstanding school debts may not be eligible to attend.

Summer Safety

The Young People’s Public Health Team has released a new Summer Safety video, providing important guidance for young people on how to stay safe during the holidays. The video covers key safety concerns including:

• Abandoned buildings
• Alcohol and substance use
• Water safety

These issues are becoming an increasingly worrying concern within our community, and we are committed to ensuring that both parent carers and young people have access to the information and support they need to stay safe.

We encourage all families to take a few minutes to watch the video together and discuss the important messages it contains. By increasing awareness and understanding of these risks, we can work together to help keep our young people safe throughout the summer.

The UKMT Junior Mathematical Challenge runs annually for students in Year 8 and below to extend their mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills. This is the first year our school has taken part; the following students represented us and did exceptionally well:

Hospitality & Catering

Fresh herbs, fresh flavours! Ms Fallon would like to introduce you to our new herb garden. It is thriving with fragrant, rosemary, mint, thyme, and much more. Grown with care and ready to inspire delicious creations. We are excited to use these beautiful ingredients in our Hospitality and Catering practical lessons, along with reducing our food miles and supporting seasonality. What’s your favourite herb to cook with? 

Sport & Performance

Year 8 Rowing Regatta – Wednesday 24th June

Our Year 8 rowing team will be competing in a rowing regatta at Warrington Rowing Club on Wednesday 24th June. The event will provide students with the opportunity to represent the school, showcase the skills they have developed throughout the academic year, and compete against other schools from around the North West.

The regatta will include a series of races on the River Mersey, testing the crews’ teamwork, technique, and determination. We are looking forward to a day of competition and wish all rowers the very best of luck as they take on this challenge. Our rowing crews will have two races each, between 09.00 and 10.30, which will result in a fastest-time winner!

We encourage parents and carers to come along and support the team if they are able to do so.

Dance Rehearsals for TCAT Summer Celebration: Celebration of Musicals

Students are eagerly preparing for the upcoming TCAT Summer Celebration event at Parr Hall, Warrington, where they will take part in the Celebration of Musicals showcase.

This year, over 30 of our talented dancers and singers will perform Seasons of Love from the musical Rent. Students have dedicated many weeks to rehearsals, with dancers attending sessions during lunch breaks and after school to perfect their performance.

As we enter the final stages of preparation, excitement is building ahead of next week’s show. A dress rehearsal at Parr Hall will give students the opportunity to make any final adjustments before taking to the stage.

We are incredibly proud of the commitment, hard work, and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved, and we look forward to seeing all their efforts come together in what promises to be a fantastic performance.

Festival of Sport 2026!

The countdown is on for one of the most exciting events in our school calendar – the annual Festival of Sport. This whole-school celebration promises an unforgettable day of energy, enthusiasm, competition and community spirit as students from every year group come together to showcase what makes our school such a vibrant place to learn and grow.

At the heart of the PE Department’s vision is our commitment to Promote • Engage • Excel. The Festival of Sport brings these values to life. The festival provides opportunities for every student to get involved, regardless of ability or experience. We strive to engage every member of our school community through a range of activities. Whether competing on the field, supporting from the sidelines, performing on the stage, or taking part in house challenges, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Most importantly, we encourage our students to excel – not just in winning competitions, but in demonstrating determination, sportsmanship, leadership and house pride.

Alongside the competition, students will have the opportunity to enjoy a range of fun inflatables and activities, ensuring the event remains a celebration of participation as much as performance.

Of course, one question remains:

Who will be crowned Festival of Sport champions?

For the past year, Arbitrium House has proudly sat at the summit, setting the standard for excellence and house spirit. However, their rivals have been working hard, and every house will arrive determined to challenge for the title. Will Arbitrium continue their reign and defend their crown, or will another house rise to the occasion?

As the competitions unfold, every point, every challenge and every performance could prove decisive. Success will require teamwork, commitment and a willingness to give everything for your house.

We encourage all students to embrace the spirit of the festival, support one another and make memories that will last long after the final scores are announced.

The stage is set. The competitors are ready. The challenge has been issued.

Who will step up? Who will shine? And most importantly—who will knock Arbitrium off top spot?

We can’t wait to find out.

Mr Burbidge will be delivering an assembly to each year group with the finer and final details during week beginning 6^th July. In the meantime, please ensure your child has full and correct PE kit (including navy sport socks if they choose to wear a skort or shorts).

Academy Sport+ Awards – celebrating excellence in Sport 2026 (invitation only)

Wednesday 1^st July

Costello Theatre, Priestley College

This event provides an opportunity for us to recognise and celebrate the outstanding sporting achievements of students from across our Trust. Throughout the year, our young athletes have demonstrated exceptional commitment, resilience, leadership and success both within school and in their chosen sports, and this evening is dedicated to acknowledging those accomplishments.

The Elite Sport Awards Evening is always a highlight of the sporting calendar, bringing together students, families and staff to celebrate individual excellence and the positive impact that sport has on the lives of our young people. As a school we have 15 students enrolled on the programme. All of which have been involved in Sport Science experience days and workshops at Liverpool John Moores University, bespoke fitness, strength and conditioning and recovery sessions with the experts at Warrington Wolves. An invite has been sent to students and Parents and Carers of the students enrolled. Please ensure the reply slips are dropped off with Mr Burbidge in the PE office no later than Monday 29^th June.

Last year our very own Will Boardman (Year 11) was awarded second place for the Sports Personality of the Year award. A recognition that acknowledged not only exceptional sporting performance, but also dedication, commitment, leadership and the positive influence he had and continues to have within Basketball and the school community.
