KS3 to KS4 set changes

Dear Parent/Carer,

As your child moves from KS3 to KS4, there are going to be some necessary class changes. When Year 10 return in September, classes will still be identified by a colour in-line with the rest of the school but will be refined to support the Maths tier of entry, Triple Science (for those students who have chosen this as an option) and English pathway.

For Maths, students entered for the Higher Tier will be working towards grades (5-9). For students entered for the Foundation tier, students will be working towards grades (1-5).

From September, if your child is in the following classes for Maths – Red, Orange or Green they will be following the Higher tier specification. If your child is in the Yellow, Blue or Indigo classes they will be following the Foundation tier specification.

English is un-tiered meaning there is no Higher/Foundation paper, therefore, all students will sit the same exam papers regardless of the class colour they are in. To support the teaching and achievement of the top grades, the Red and Green classes are now equal in terms of ability.

Confirmation of which classes your child will be in for English and Maths will be posted to you in the school holidays.

If you have any queries regarding your child’s classes, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Koltan
