Personal Guidance Meeting
Personal Guidance meetings are purposeful and supportive conversations between careers advisor and a young person. They will discuss the young person’s skills, interests and achievements and reflect on what this means for their career’s plans, enabling them to reach an informed careers decision and empower them to move forward.
Career Connect is a charity with an outstanding reputation for providing high quality Careers, Information, Advice and Guidance for young people in schools and colleges. This is a critical part of the careers programme.
Careers Information, Advice and Guidance, at every stage of a student’s time at Sir Thomas Boteler, is important to help them realise their potential and to make informed decisions about their futures. Young people need to understand where they could be going and how to get there.
Sir Thomas Boteler School will be working with Career Connect during this academic year to deliver an exciting and inspirational programme of career advice and guidance activities. The Careers Advisers who will be working with Sir Thomas Boteler are John Williamson and Erin Johnson-Finnerty. We also have an appropriately trained careers advisor in school full time to support our SEND and potential NEET students.
Every learner will have the opportunity for at least 1 guidance meeting with our career advisor . These meetings will take place whenever significant study or career choices are being made. These meetings will be scheduled to meet individual needs. Parents and careers will be informed and invited to attend. The careers Action Plan and advice from the meeting will then go to the student’s school email.
One to one career guidance interview will give your child the opportunity to discuss future career ideas, subject choice and suitable post 16 provision. Careers Connect will also deliver group sessions with pupils that will introduce the world of work, jobs for the future and a range of other career-related topics. Careers connect will be available during Parents Evenings if you have any specific questions or wish to discuss post 16 options and career choices.
Careers connect advisors are available for guidance meetings every Wednesday and Friday and during the lunch time there is a ‘drop-in clinic’ if any students have any questions, they can also apply to college, apprenticeships or even if they wish to use the careers area to research their own ideas.
