At Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School, we believe that every child is entitled to a broad, balanced, relevant and at times scaffolded/adapted curriculum – all students have this right. As a Christian school we strongly believe that this equality of education is vital and is underpinned by High Expectations, High Aspirations and High Standards for all. It should not be constrained by age, gender, creed, race, physical disability, special educational need or vulnerability. High Quality First Teaching delivered by highly qualified teaching staff is available for all students with and without identified individual needs.

Trained personnel committed to maximum inclusion and equality deliver this entitlement to high quality education. They are able to provide a happy, sensitive, secure and developmental environment in which all individuals are encouraged and enabled to learn. Students are supported and actively encouraged to be fully involved in addressing their own learning needs. Students understanding of how they remember more and learn more is an important skill. 

Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School supports students via a holistic school approach meeting the needs of all students within the school and involves all teachers, learning enrichment staff, behavior specialists, therapeutic councilor, safeguarding leads and pastoral team.  This ensures a joined-up approach to meeting the needs of every single student and the whole child. It is our belief that every child matters and therefore we will do whatever we can, for as long as it takes, when each of them need it, because every child deserves to have these opportunities.

Our specialist team is highly skilled and is built on the specific needs of students, support varies dependent upon the very personal requirements of the individual.

Curriculum Learning Enrichment staff are all qualified teachers who work within their area of specialism to enrich and enhance the team, enabling all students within the classroom. They are allocated to the specific classroom based upon ongoing and developing needs.

Specialist Learning Enrichment support is also in place within our Links base, to ensure students to gain access to learning by ensuring their social emotional and mental health needs are met. They also enable students who need additional support with Speech language communication and interaction. Through a highly tailored programme of support, using a range of agencies and evidence-based interventions, students are monitored and reviewed to ensure they have the best possible outcomes.

We are exceptionally proud of our active SEND parent group, which we host several times throughout the year. Our parent’s/carer’s involvement throughout is vital and massively appreciated. 

Designated Provision

Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School has a Local Authority Key Stage 3 and 4 Designated Provision for children with Cognition and Learning Needs. All of the students within the Designated Provision have an Education and Health Care Plan.

The students are taught in a calm, nurturing and welcoming self-contained environment. The students are incredibly proud of their workspace and would encourage you to visit us.

Within the Designated Provision the students follow a heavily tailored curriculum, personalised to support their specific needs. Key Stage 4 students where possible follow a GCSE/BTEC route (again this is based upon the individual capabilities of each student), whilst also working towards a range of Entry Level Certificates. The group as a cohort are regularly presented with AQA certificates, which celebrate both academic and life skills. We also follow the ASDAN programme where a range of invaluable life skills are worked upon, including teamwork, independent learning, coping with problems, and using maths, English and IT.  We aim to challenge the children academically and, where possible, encourage students to access mainstream lessons. Our Year 11 students have all gone on to college and university, studying a variety of courses from sport, cooking horticulture and animal management, and games design.

There is a specific focus within the Designated Provision on speech and language development, social skills development and independence.

We have a very successful working relationship with Warrington Wolves. Their Ability Team joins the Designated Provision each week to work on team building skills, effective communication and problem solving.

Horticulture is used as an alternative therapy for Designated Provision students. Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School was awarded a £10,000 grant to improve the gardens. The students of the Designated Provision are so proud to be a part of the transformation.
