Homework & Independent Study

We believe in the value of homework. We also believe that homework should be purposeful and reinforce classroom learning. Students need to take responsibility for their homework and ensure that they have all the correct information in order for them to complete the homework that has been set on time. Our ‘principles of homework’ are set out here:

Developing Learning Habits  Using the Knowledge Organiser
Develop organisational skills

Engage with Satchel One

Embedding routines

Promote independence

Assessment preparation

Develop study skills

Retrieval of knowledge

Consolidation of knowledge

Read, cover, write, check, repeat (RCWCR)

COLD & HOT Questions from the knowledge Organiser

Deepen Learning

The Read, cover, write, check, repeat (RCWC) highlighted in the table above relates to a learning technique to enhance retrieval skills. Students are expected to apply this technique when answering the COLD & HOT questions on the reverse side of their knowledge organiser. This technique enhances knowledge retention.

Satchel One

All Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School students are provided with a Satchel One account. Parents/carers also have an account that they can access online to monitor the homework that is being set for and completed by their child(ren).

All Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School teachers set homework using Satchel One. This is then accessible by students and parents/carers either via the app that can be downloaded or by logging on via an internet connection.

Once students have logged on for the first time using their PIN, they will be able to log on using their school user name and password which is set up to help students manage their Office 365 Account.

Parents/Carers of new Year 7 students will receive their PIN information during the first week of their child being at Sir Thomas Boteler. All Year 7 students will be provided with an opportunity to log-in to their Satchel One account during the first fortnight at school as part of their Computing lessons.
