NAS message

This is a message from Kevin at the National Apprenticeship Service, regarding apprenticeships for Year 11 students.

The funding rules still state the same and have not changed regarding the eligibility of apprenticeships, they would still have to have to be 16 and left full time education.

To be eligible for an apprenticeship in England, Kim, a candidate must meet the following requirements:

– Must currently be living in England.

– Must not be in full time education at the start of your apprenticeship

– Must be past the last Friday in June within the school year when the candidate will turn 16 (e.g. they could be 15 when finishing school and still apply for an apprenticeship if their birthday is before the start of the next academic year)

If a candidate is applying for an apprenticeship and does not hold a level 2 English and Maths qualification it is a requirement for the training provider to give them the opportunity to achieve this as part of an apprenticeship, this is called Functional Skills in Maths and English. Your chosen course may require you to pass this in order for you to receive your certificate, even if you have passed your actual apprenticeship.
