Year 7

WA1

Title of assessment:

Does God exist? – GCSE style 12-mark question with evaluation skills and justified opinions.

Skills assessed:

Basic response to an ultimate question requiring analysis, evaluation and justification skills.

To give for and against arguments focussed on whether God exists or not, students must include evidence and examples to support their points.

Key learning:

What are the arguments for and against God’s existence?

WA2

Title of assessment:

Did Jesus really rise from the dead? Talmudic debates/presentations and exam style evaluation questions

Skills assessed:

Debate and expression when outlining different viewpoints and beliefs

Analysis of evidence and structure of arguments using evidence and examples to support the points made

Appropriate expression of own view and sensitivity to the views of others.

Key learning:

what happened to Jesus? Why did he die? what is the Turin shroud? Does it matter if Jesus rose from the dead?

WA3

Title of assessment:

What happens when faith and courage collide?  Presentations and exam style question. My hero website addition.

Skills assessed:

Expression of views and facts.

Interpretation of evidence and application of knowledge

Key learning:

Are there such people as ‘Heroes of faith’? when do people become agents of change? Who or what can inspire people to take a stand? What initiates people of faith to respond regardless of personal cost?

 

Year 8

WA1

Title of assessment:

How do society and the media portray Islam? Presentation and exam style questions with evaluation and justified opinions.

Skills assessed:

Analysis of evidence and public opinion. Coming to a justified conclusion using examples and evidence to support points made.

To give a balanced opinion on how the media portrays Islam.

Key learning:

Islam, a diverse community? Where can we find evidence? Are people always what they claim? How does Islam influence your world?

WA2

Title of assessment:

Is death the end? Analysis of different beliefs in the afterlife both religious and secular. Exam style question requiring students to look at different viewpoints and share their own with a justified conclusion.

Skills assessed:

Evaluation skills, knowledge and understanding of the different beliefs in the afterlife as outlined in different world religions and secular opinions. Justification of own view with reasoning.

Key learning:

What are the key beliefs in heaven and hell?

Does everybody believe in the same thing?

Contemporary expressions of life after death

Attitudes to grief and mourning

WA3

Title of assessment:

What is God? Exam style question and trinity guide showing an understanding of a key Christian concept.

Skills assessed:

Evaluation skills and analysis of key concepts – trinity.

Key learning:

Do all Christians belief the same thing about God?

What is the trinity?

What do the arts, scripture and the creeds tell us about the Trinity?

Perichoresis: what’s love got to do with it?

Do all religions have the same understanding of God?

 

Year 9

WA1

Title of assessment:

The origins of the world and the nature of God

Exam style question – 12-mark question – ‘For a Jew, the best description of God is ‘God is one’’.

Skills assessed:

Knowledge and understanding of the key concepts in Judaism and Christianity of the nature of God.

Evaluation skills and justification of viewpoints using evidence and religious texts to support points.

WA2

Title of assessment:

Christian beliefs and teachings – Jesus. Exam question – ‘Salvation is Gods greatest gift to humans’

Skills assessed:

Evaluation skills and knowledge of the course components and key concepts of salvation, atonement and incarnation. Students will demonstrate skills of justification and reference religious texts

Key learning:

Messianic prophecies

Incarnation and the birth of Jesus

Crucifixion and resurrection and atonement

Title of assessment:

Jewish practices exam question – 12 –mark evaluation – ‘the Jews are Gods chosen people’ how might someone agree and disagree with this statement?

Skills assessed:

Knowledge of Jewish practices and covenants and ability to evaluate the statement using justified viewpoints and examples.

Worship at home and in the synagogue
