Overview of subject

At English Key Stage 3, we offer a curriculum that prepares young people for the necessary skills needed to access the GCSE English Language and English Literature courses.  Our curriculum offers a balance of reading and writing assessments that are tightly linked to the assessment requirements of the current GCSE curriculum.

When pupils progress to Key Stage 4, they will study two GCSEs: English Literature and Language. In year 10 we focus on completing English Language Controlled Assessments (40% of final grade), we also begin to teach the exam content for the English Language reading and writing exams (60% of final grade). In year 11, we complete the Literature controlled assessment (25% of final Literature grade); we prepare for the Literature exams (75% of final Literature grade) and we revise for the final English Language reading and writing exams.
