Artist Ian Murphy visits Boteler

Ian Murphy2 IanMurphy P1050019This half term Year 11 GCSE Art students have been looking at buildings from different perspectives.

Their new project initially made them reconsider a building that they are in everyday (our school!) as inspiration for Art work. All of the Year 11 Art students were then invited on a visit to look at different styles of architecture in Salford and Manchester. We visited the The Lowry Arts Centre and Imperial War Museum North at Salford Quays, both magnificent steel structures with bold, modern lines and the beautiful gothic inspired John Ryland’s library, which some pupils compare to Hogwarts , ‘like stepping back in time’.

This was a great day gathering photographs of the contrasting  buildings from different angles and details , which students will use to inspire them to create a number of final pieces.

To help them with new skills and ideas  the local artist, Ian Murphy, came in for the day to work alongside students and gave them a master class sharing some of his own techniques and expertise. Students made some fantastic samples that will help them towards their Art GCSE, we look forward to seeing the completed work!
